What makes Chios special is not only its landscapes, beaches, or villages — but the feeling of discovering a place that still belongs to itself.
The island has preserved its identity in a way few destinations have managed to do. Local traditions remain alive, food culture remains deeply authentic, and experiences feel personal rather than manufactured for tourism.
Whether visiting for gastronomy, relaxation, culture, sailing, or bespoke experiences, Chios offers a more thoughtful and refined version of Greek island travel.
At Chios On Demand, we curate insider-led experiences designed to help travelers explore the island comfortably, authentically, and entirely at their own pace.
Why Chios Mastiha Is One of the World’s Most Unique Natural Products
Few products in the world are as deeply connected to a place as Chios Mastiha.
Known as the “tears of Chios,” mastiha is a natural resin produced exclusively in the southern part of the island by the mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus var. chia). Despite many attempts throughout history, the unique combination of climate, soil, and environment found in South Chios has never been successfully replicated anywhere else in the world.
Today, Chios Mastiha is internationally recognized as one of Greece’s most distinctive products — appreciated not only for its flavor and aroma, but also for its cultural, culinary, and wellness significance.
